Step 1 'Get the boat'

We had a house party over the long weekend! My sister and BF and their hubby’s arrived – we had forewarned them about the flood however with flights booked and paid for…. plus everyone likes a little adventure I guess! I wont tell you how much six captured adults drank over two days. Bruce and Annette are inside the levee bank with us (they’ve since de-camped to Toowoomba) and live near-by so they joined us for dinner on saturday night as well.

2. Decide who's going in the boat & who's walking leg one.

Skye & Geoff arrived late from Tamworth and in Geoff’s words had to attempt ‘an amphibious landing’ in the dark. Not perfect however we couldn’t exactly suggest they drive the 110km back to Moree. Geoff had done the Sydney to Tamworth leg after working a half day on Sat am and met Skye at the airport for the 41/2 hr drive across to us. A doddle for Skye being an ex-Walcha bush kid. Geoff with no time to change and no space for his jacket appeared out of the floodwater in rolled up chino’s and a double breasted yachting jacket. ‘The name’s Bond, Geoff Bond,’ he quipped dripping mud and surrounded by mozzies as he pulled a bottle of wine from his backpack. Love a man who comes prepared to battle the elements! Of course getting out on monday morning at 7.30 am wasn’t that great. It had nothing to do with a scant alcohol induced six hours sleep both nights. Part 2 tomorrow…

3. So that will be Brooke, Nick & Gaven walking
