Uniqueness-Brooke

Last week I had a few client discussions around “life purpose“. People wanting to re-discover their life purpose, their reason for being. They wanted to know why they were living on this planet at this time and what their mission should/could look like.
I had quite a lively discussion as we explored what purpose actually meant. If you take the dictionary definition; the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. You get the feeling that perhaps there is strength to this concept, and I agree entirely. What I don’t agree with is why people get SO HUNG UP ON IT so that it stops them in their tracks. You see you need to stop viewing purpose as an achievement, rather you need to view your purpose as a progression. Your evolution. Your purpose will change as it’s required to change. Your purpose does not DEFINE who you are, rather it should be viewed as a chapter heading in the book of the story of your life.

I think the real reason that people are drawn to discovering their life purpose is because they are in the early stages of recognising that things just aren’t working out the way they thought they would be. Part of discovering your uniqueness is to accept that whilst it is comfortable to stay in that safe place, (we like to hold onto what is predictable and what can be more predictable than knowing our lifes purpose!) I call it uncomfortable discomfort, we get so used to ‘operating’ from that zone that we ’stay’ because it’s safe. We miss out on those opportunities because we are withholding ourselves in a self-made force field where we think .. ‘It’s OK. This is safe. This is regular. This is just like everybody else.’ And that’s where people stop. Get frustrated, kick the can and begin accepting their environment or their situation.

It’s a reality that human beings don’t like change until chaos comes. Only then do we actively respond to our environment because it’s a life altering situation. Everyday is the same until chaos arrives and then for some of us life is never the same again. We didn’t come here for a predictable, life purpose defined life. We came here for a journey. And that journey can be anything that we want. It’s the universal law of free will. All you have to do is be willing to make the change. Go on discover your uniqueness. Your life just might never be the same again.

Remember “Be YOURSELF because everybody else is Taken”.
