Nicole Alexander … new book deal

These latest publishing milestones come after Nicole’s successful non-fiction title, How To Get A Girl – a glovebox guide for men (Kre8 Publishing) was published in 2005 and her first poetry collection, Divertissements – Love · War · Society selected poems was released by Kre8 Publishing in December 2008.

In the course of her career, Nicole has worked both in Australia and Singapore in financial services, fashion, corporate publishing and agriculture. She has been successful as an author, reviewer, copywriter, corporate publisher and poet. Her poetry, travel and genealogy articles have been published in Australia, America and Singapore.

A fourth generation grazier, Nicole currently works as the business manager on her family’s mixed agricultural property (in northern NSW), which was selected by her great-grandfather in 1893.

“In between mustering sheep and cattle, driving heavy machinery and working in the station office I write!” Nicole said.

According to Nicole, The Bark Cutters is different to other works of the same genre in that at its heart is an all-encompassing love of the land.

“This is the story of a woman torn between love and the land; of 4 generations of the Gordon family. The love the Gordon’s have for their land is a love that transcends death, relationships and generations and that is almost spiritual in portrayal. The narrative is split between the 1800s and the 1900s. The story explores the challenges faced, the tenacity needed and single-minded strength that is required to carve a life for one self and family in the Australian bush.

“In The Bark Cutters I wanted to write about the emotional attachment that generational farmers feel towards the land. I can’t wait to share The Bark Cutters. I hope when readers open The Bark Cutters they will breathe in the heart and soul of the land I love.”
