Looking for a new read? Here are two new titles. From women who’ve struggled through the hardships of the Australian bush to an abandoned child and a reclusive woman who names her chairs.

womenWomen Of Spirit

Anne Crawford tells the true stories of nine inspiring women from remote parts of Australia. These women have left the city and gone bush or been born and bred in the outback. Most of these non-fiction titles can be a bit similar however this work stands out for its simplicity, accuracy and entertaining narrative. Here you’ll find the usual swag of inhospitable conditions, floods and droughts, love and triumph. However in the hardships there is also joy. Adversity and endurance makes for good reading.

Lost & Found.

Next we have the debut novel by Brooke Davis. Lost and Found is receiving good reviews. It’s a quirky read although the themes, abandonment, old age, grief and death among others may not appeal to all.  Nor does that mean that this isn’t an uplifting read. There are three main characters; a seven year old, Millie Bird who is searching for her mother.  Agatha Pantha a house-ridden  eighty-two year old and  the eighty-seven year old, Karl the Touch Typist who has recently escaped from his nursing home. “Three lost people needing to be found. But they don’t know it yet. Millie, Agatha and Karl are about to break the rules and discover what living is all about”. So the blurb reads, however this novel is a lot more than that. It’s a growing-up/love story/ road trip. Movie material I’d say.
