A new year, and the force awakens… if you’re a Star Wars fan, then like me you’ve probably already seen the next instalment, and yes, the audience did cheer when Han Solo (Ford looking ruggedly aged but distinguished) made his first appearance.  Spoiler alert – Luke Skywalker, who makes a fleeting appearance, didn’t fare so well over the years, looking as if he’d been dragged across three Death Stars by a Wookie.  But a great ride, especially in 3D, everyone was ducking and weaving as fighter planes soared.

There’s a raft of movies out, from the new James Bond offering, Spectre, to Suffragettes and  Leo Dicaprio’s upcoming, The Revenant. I missed The Dressmaker, however as it’s out on DVD next month…

The_Revenant_2015_film_posterBooks or movies? I love books, but come January, with a another novel deadline, I’m usually after some good old-fashioned, pop-corn variety, entertainment. Having said that I’ve already managed to devour Liz Gilbert’s Big Magic 3+, Tim Winton’s Island memoir 4+, and the delightfully whimsical, The Little Paris Bookshop, 4.5 + (ok it’s my second read of this one). I rarely do 5 stars, mainly because its hard to measure up with To Kill A Mocking Bird, Gone with the Wind or Pride and Prejudice.

For a peek at my reading list head to Goodreads , the place for book aficionados! I opened Kate Morton’s latest gothic/mystery/saga – it’s long, but figured I’d wait to visit The Lake House, until I was on a beach somewhere…

My top read of 2015 is All the Light We Cannot See a historical novel written by American author Anthony Doerr. It won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
